The choice wasn’t just about the prizes or the hype, but because it focuses on an intersex protagonist: Cal. Sure, I love my sci-fi, fantasy, and comics, but I like to throw some deep, literary stuff into the mix, too. On a recent pre–COVID-19 trip, I decided I would finally read Jeffrey Eugenides’s Pulitzer Prize–winning novel Middlesex. ![]()
